Donald Chalk 1958-2020

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10

Donald J. Chalk, 61, of Greentown, formerly of Madisonville, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 10, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
He left behind his beloved wife and caregiver of 9 months, Diane Rose; and his stepdaughter and caregiver, Ashley Diane. He also is survived by his son, Brendan, his daughter, Brittany Calderone; and grandchildren, Jack and Hazel.

Born September 2, 1958, in New York, N.Y., he and his family settled in Jersey City, N.J., where he and his family lived for many years. He attended Jersey City schools. He had a love of all kinds of trains and often accompanied his dad, Ernest, who worked for the railroad on many train trips.
He was employed by Square Electric in Jersey City, and Hahn's Glass Repair in Bayonne, N.J., before making a move to Maryland, where he worked as a utility line locator. He remained in Maryland and cared for his father until his death. He moved to Madisonville, Pa., in 2010 for the simple life, to be near family, and to raise his son, Brendan, as a single dad and sacrificed everything to care for him.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Kupka and Ernest; his sister, Lois, and his brothers, Kenneth and Robert.
Donald was of the Roman Catholic faith and lived a life of service to others. He was a past Grand Knight of the North Pocono Council 6050 of the Knights of Columbus and a 4th degree Knight of Father Barrett Assembly. Donald was also Vice President of Feeding Families Ministry Inc. at the Mountain Center in Tobyhanna where he served alongside his wife, Diane, who founded this Christian ministry. He helped serve the hungry, needy, poor, and homeless. It was here Donald found his true calling for serving others, he had a real rapport with people and serving, he could always be seen patrolling the halls of the Mountain Center and will continue to watch over the work there. He had a very special bond with his Feeding Families family, they meant so much him, and they in turn provided much support and prayers to Donald and his family and he will be deeply missed leaving many broken hearts behind.

He was responsible for serving many needy people and was extremely kind and overly generous, He had a quick wit and was loyal to his friends and the causes he believed in. He loved the ocean and made many trips to Atlantic City with his wife. They were both lucky enough to find love a second time and enjoyed trips to the New Jersey shore and casinos. They would have celebrated their first wedding anniversary on October 5, 2020. Diane loved and cared for him in their home until he slipped peacefully away into the arms of our Lord. Donald loved doing puzzles and enjoyed tinkering around the house with household projects and proved to be very handy with his tools. He was an avid horse racing fan and visited most of the tracks on the East Coast with his family, who was very important to him.
He loved being around the house playing with his two fur babies, Tara and Callie, who were always very close by his side and very protective of him in his last days. He was loved by his many friends, and he is going to be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sharma and The Henry Cancer Center for their care and Dr. Thomas Churilla, and Dr. Glen Digwood for all their kindness. The family would also like to thank the girls at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their support and compassion during this difficult time.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, July 15, followed by a Catholic blessing service and homegoing celebration at:
The Frey-Fetsock Funeral Home
201 Route 191, South Sterling, PA 18460

Masks are required to be worn.

Memorial donations in memory of Donald may be made to Feeding Families Ministry Inc., P.O. Box 584, Newfoundland, PA 18445 and www.feedingfamiliesministry.com to continue with the work that Donald felt so strongly about.
